Osmotica Pharmaceuticals Picks Marietta for Major R&D Location, 156 New Jobs
Governor Nathan Deal came to Marietta to join Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin, Cobb Commissioner Helen Goreham (Chairman Tim Lee was at the Regional Roundtable meeting to regional select projects for the T-SPLOST), and Cobb Chamber Chairman Rob Garcia for the announcement that this global pharmaceutical firm will open its first North American R&D facility in the former Solvay Pharmaceutical buildings, investing $20 million into the project and creating 156 high-wage jobs over the next five years. In the video, you’ll hear from Deal, Tumlin, Gorham, and Garcia on why Cobb, as part of Georgia’s Innovation Crescent, is one of the top communities in the Southeast for bioscience and life science clusters. This is a huge win for our “Team Cobb” economic development team: Brooks Mathis here at the Cobb Chamber & Development Authority, Beth Sessoms at the City of Marietta, Michael Hughes at Cobb County, and the exceptional team at the State (Chris Cummiskey, Gretchen Corbin, and Carole Henderson).

2012 Regional T-SPLOST To Be Biggest Economic Development Driver in Recent Memory

At our last First Monday Breakfast, ARC Chairman Tad Leithead presented to more than 300 business and community leaders the facts about the upcoming 2012 Regional T-SPLOST. In this video, you’ll hear from Leithead, Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance Smith, Council for Quality Growth President Michael Paris, and Cobb Chamber Government Affairs Vice Chairman Heath Garrett on what it is and the impact it will have on Cobb and Metro Atlanta. Simply put, passage of this referendum next year will generate more than $6+ billion NEW dollars for massive transportation improvements that will reduce commute times, offer mobility choices to commuters, and improve the area’s quality of life. As our economic development team can attest (and we have all experienced), traffic congestion is our biggest obstacle to job creation and economic development. A YES vote next year, will send a global signal to site selection consultants and prospective companies that that Cobb County and Metro Atlanta are taking this obstacle to job growth off the table.
