Seniors and caregivers will have plenty to learn about at this year’s “Aging By Design” on Saturday, April 30. Keynote speakers for the event are Coach Vince Dooley and his wife Barbara.
The expo will provide a one-stop shop for those seeking information about aging issues, Cobb County Senior Services Director Jessica Gill said. Local business and organizations will be on-site during the event, which will run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Roswell Street Baptist Church, 774 Roswell St., Marietta.
Vince Dooley is expected to discuss his coaching career at the University of Georgia, but the couple will also talk about ways to stay healthy. Barbara Dooley is a cancer survivor. Their talk will start at 9 a.m.
“We wanted to have something for everyone,” Gill said. “I understand they’re quite the dynamic duo.”
The event will also host book signings, health screenings and vendors with the expo running 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All sessions are open to those 18 and older. There will be presentations at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. by FBI Special Agent Chip Cromer, who will discuss how seniors can protect themselves from financial fraud.
Other speakers will include a law enforcement official talking about elder abuse — overall trends, what authorities are doing to prosecute it and how seniors can protect themselves from it. Last year’s event had about 500 people in attendance – double the size of the crowd from the previous year.
Admission, which includes breakfast, is only $5 for early registration. After 5 p.m. on April 22, registration will cost $10 and will not include breakfast. Limited boxed lunches are available for purchase for $8. Lunch reservations are required prior to the event. Visit www.cobbseniors.org for registration and details.
