LGE Community Credit Union Awards $15,000 in Scholarships

IMG_5660LGE Community Credit Union awarded $15,000 in scholarship money to five graduating seniors who will be entering college this fall.  Each student received a $3,000 scholarship as part of the Credit Union’s annual scholarship program.

Scholarship applicants were required to submit a short video on LGE’s Facebook page, which answered the question “Why is it important to be smart with your money?” in sixty seconds or less. The applicants not only needed to answer the question successfully, but also be creative in doing so.

A panel of LGE employees from various departments met to review and judge the videos based on subject, content and creativity. The three videos with the highest overall scores were then chosen, followed by the video voted most creative. The final student won based on the amount of votes for their video on LGE’s Facebook page.

“The goal was to encourage the students to think outside of the box,” said Scott Brooks, Vice President of Marketing at LGE.  “It’s planting the seed now that being smart with their money is important, and by getting them to explain why they better understand it themselves. ”

The scholarship winners were:

Alicia Wille of Canton, GA, graduating from Cherokee High School with plans to attend Kennesaw State University

Kyle West of Jasper, GA, graduating from Pickens High School with plans to attend University of Georgia

Jessica Rainbow of Marietta, GA, graduating from Kell High School with plans to attend University of West Georiga
