The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet inspired by the true story of four iconic rock & roll pioneers and how they came together for one magical night, comes to Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta on September 20 & 21, 2017. For tickets go to: Ticketmaster.com, 800-745-3000 or visit the Centre’s Box Office.
The real-life event turned smash hit musical transports audiences to December 1956 in a recording studio at Sun Records in Memphis, TN with four of the greatest rock n’ roll legends of all time: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Million Dollar Quartet brings that legendary December night to life with an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal and celebrations that is both poignant and funny. Relive the magical era featuring an incredible score of rock & roll, gospel, R&B and country hits, performed live onstage by world-class actors and musicians. Showcased hit songs include: “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and many more.
In 1956, newspapers termed this gathering “the million dollar quartet;” today the New York Times describes the show as “a buoyant new jukebox musical” and New York Magazine calls it a “dazzling, raucous spectacle.”
Since debuting at the Apollo Theater in 2008, Million Dollar Quartet is the longest running show in Chicago’s history. Accolades include a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, Tony Award nominations for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical (Colin Escott & Floyd Mutrux), an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Musical Revue, and three Drama League nominations including Distinguished Production of a Musical and Distinguished Performance.
