The JOY FM #BeJoy Backpack Campaign Donates Over 30 Tons of Food to Help Feed Hungry School Children

During the 3rd Annual #bejoy backpack promotion, The JOY FM partnered with local backpack food organizations to provide school children with food each weekend this school year.

This year, The JOY FM listening community in Metro Atlanta/East Alabama and Central & Southwest Florida provided over 30 tons of food in the form of individually packaged items. Listeners generously donated non-perishable food items inspired by the acronym #bejoy…’b’ – boxes of cereal, ‘e’ – easy mac & cheese, ‘j’ – jello, ‘o’ – oatmeal and ‘y’ – your choice.

In exchange, The JOY FM gave each donor a newly designed #bejoy drawstring backpack. kids backpacksThe food items collected were given to local backpack food organizations. This total exceeds the previous year, yet represents only a fraction of the demand to meet the need for the entire school year. Food items were collected at 22 live, on-air locations, over a 3 hour period, 14 locations in Florida on August 22nd and 8 locations in Georgia/Alabama on August 29th.

The promotion served over 22 different local organizations serving several hundred local schools from Atlanta, Georgia to Port Charlotte, Florida. Backpacks full of food for these children help to bridge the gap over the weekends when they may not have food at home.

The JOY FM is a network of non-commercial, listener-supported contemporary Christian music stations serving Southwest, Central and North Florida since 1986 and Metro Atlanta/East Alabama since 2011. It is owned by Radio Training Network, and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization.
