Life University’s Student Success Center to Host 5th “Be There Experience” for REACH Georgia & Mentoring for Leadership Students

LifeUniversity_Brandmark[4]Life University (LIFE) will host a “Be There Experience” on Thursday, April 12, 2018 for 8th grade REACH Georgia scholarships winners and 8th graders from the Mentoring for Leadership program at its Student Success Center. LIFE is proud to have been a host and provider of tutoring and mentoring support to area students since 2011, and this year’s event marks the fifth “Be There Experience” for them.

REACH Georgia is the state’s first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. The mission is to ensure that Georgia’s academically promising students have the academic, social and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college and achieve postsecondary success. Each REACH Scholar is a participant in the Mentoring for Leadership program and is matched with a community mentor.

The Mentoring for Leadership program’s mission is to match students who have demonstrated potential, yet have limited opportunities, with community mentors while providing collegial experiences to encourage and support students in maximizing their leadership potential and their personal, academic and future success. By matching the skills and passions of each mentor to the needs and desires of the student, we encourage each to become active, contributing citizens.

Many Life University faculty participate in the program and volunteer their time to help make this an enriching day and give the children an opportunity to explore science and visualize career paths they may never have thought of before.

The day’s agenda includes the following topics being presented by Life University’s Faculty:

  • Radiology Films/Plastic Models/Bones – Dr. Lydia Dever
  • Natural Sciences – Drs. Robin Sibert, Deidre Meiggs, Kathryn Bruce and Adaris Mas Rivera
  • Anatomage Tables (anatomy visualization system) – Dr. Salman Afsharpour
  • Nutrition Demonstration – Dr. Denise Pickett-Bernard

Life University’s Director of the Student Success Center, Dr. Lisa E. Rubin, has this to say about the University’s involvement in these empowering programs, “It is my privilege, on behalf of Life University, to host these future leaders at our Student Success Center. They embody the power of potential, and we are just so excited to see these amazing students again this year.”
