Mount Paran Christian School senior string bass player Will Duncan has been selected as a member of the 2021 All-National Concert Band. He is the first MPCS musician to be named to this prestigious ensemble and is anticipated to be the only bassist in the entire country playing in the concert band!

Mount Paran Christian School senior Will Duncan was recently selected to the 2021 All-National Concert Band and is anticipated to be the only bassist in the entire country performing in the concert band.

MPCS Director of Bands Billy Flood said that Duncan play “with outstanding intonation, unswerving tempo, and fantastic interpretation. He has the work ethic, the indefatigable tenacity, the talent, the professionalism, and the interpersonal skills to be a professional musician, should he be called into that vocation. Although only a senior in high school, Will is a consummate professional who makes the job easier for everybody else and can also play anything placed before him. He fits in with any group and can play any style authentically.”

Having now been named to the All-State Jazz Ensemble, All-State String Orchestra, Governor’s Honors Program, and All-National Concert Band, Duncan has completed a musical “grand slam” and is essentially ranked on a national scale as a champion first (string) bass player.

Of the recognition, Duncan said, “I am very honored to receive this level of recognition for my musicianship, and I hope that I am able to represent the Mount Paran community in a way that is honoring to God and my school. I am thankful to all of those over the course of my life, including my instructors at MPCS, who have encouraged me to strive for excellence in music.”

Flood said, “Should he choose to pursue a music career, I am confident that he would thrive equally well in the world of the studio musician or of the freelance performer… due to his preternatural sense of timing, rhythm, style, and groove, along with his impeccable professionalism.” The selection to the 2021 All-National Concert Band is a mere short-stop on what promises to be an exciting musical career as he catches every opportunity that pops up.
