On March 1, Mount Paran Christian School (MPCS) represented nearly 10% of the state finalists selected from more than 350 high schools in Georgia at the All-State Art Symposium at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, when four student works were selected to be displayed at the event. Of those submissions, one MPCS student was awarded second place for her artwork.
As part of the honors, the All-State Art Symposium invited eight MPCS Advanced Placement (AP) art students to a day of art workshops including metal smithing, ceramics, pinhole photography, and sculpture. The purpose of the symposium is to further develop advanced studio skills and cultivate artistic appreciation while celebrating creativity in students statewide.
The following pieces were selected to be displayed:
Annie Strickland, Fear of Failure.
Chelsea Parada, Distracted Driver.
Chelsea Parada, Socializing.
Claire Finch, Conflicted.
In addition to MPCS representing 10% of the selected artwork from more than 350 high schools—out of 2,400 entries, senior Chelsea Parada was selected as the second place winner for her piece Distracted Driver. Chelsea exclaimed how she was just so grateful for the experience. “It was an honor to be there, and I really enjoyed exploring different ways of creating art during the workshops!”
