Allison Giddens Named a 2019 Atlanta Braves Community Hero

Allison Giddens of Marietta has been selected as a 2019 Community Hero by the Atlanta Braves. She was recognized for her contributions to the community as founder and president of the Dave Krache Foundation, an organization she started that pays fees for children who want to play organized sports but whose parents cannot afford it.

Throughout Community Heroes Week, the Braves Foundation and FOX Sports South shine a spotlight on individuals and organizations worthy of recognition and support. Giddens was surprised by the Braves on Tuesday at Lost Mountain Park, as she was giving an inspirational talk to the West Cobb Girls Softball camp. She had no idea why she was really at the park.

“I heard a drumline and saw people in red jerseys,” said Giddens. “I kept answering questions from the girls, but noticed the parade was getting closer and thought ‘what is going on?’”

She was greeted by Braves players, the “Heavy Hitters” drumline and Fox Sports broadcasters Chip Caray and Ashley ShahAhmadi, who informed her that she has been named a 2019 Braves Community Hero for her organization’s work, helping more than 700 kids around metro Atlanta play sports.

Giddens started the organization in 2012, in memory of her father, Dave Krache, who was an avid sports fan and someone always trying to help others in need. She noted that she was getting the Braves honor on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Braves pitcher Mike Soroka presented Giddens with a $5000 check to the foundation, along with 50 tickets to the Braves game that night, and special VIP tickets for her family.

Each softball player was presented with a Braves Community Heroes t-shirt and a new baseball glove from Mizuno.

Giddens said she was truly stunned, but grateful to the Braves.

“This is an incredible honor, and a wonderful way to spread the word about what we do,” said Giddens. “On behalf of the Dave Krache Foundation, I am grateful – and still in shock!”
