The Partnership of Atlanta, located near the Battery, partnered with Cobb County Schools to become a Partner in Education with LaBelle Elementary
School, which is in Smyrna, Ga. As a result of the partnership, Amanda Lucey, CEO of The Partnership, presented the school with a check for $1,000.
The administration is excited to use the funds to equip teachers with more technology for the classrooms, including digital cameras and printers. Additionally, Paul Watson, Principal, and Dr. Marilyn Thomas, Assistant Principal, are hoping to increase student achievement by providing
incentives for their hard work. With the combined technology and incentives, the administration is hoping to see gains in reading and math.
“There are always needs within a Title 1 School, so any support is greatly appreciated,” commented Watson. LaBelle is a Title 1 Arts Integration School, meaning they receive federal funds for low-income students to ensure they receive the necessary funds for their education. LaBelle consists of 410 students and about 70 teachers and staff members. Of the 410 students, 70% are Hispanic and about 30% are African American.
