Brookwood Christian School: 2019 Top 25 Business of the Year

Brookwood Christian School (BCS) is a small private school with a focus on dyslexia and other language processing disorders. BCS uses specialized curriculum such as Wilson Reading System, Fast ForWord Reading, Handwriting Without Tears, Keyboarding Without Tears, American Guidance Service and The Critical Thinking Company to help students overcome difficulties.

Students typically have an IQ ranging from low average to gifted accompanied with various individual or multiple learning disorders such dyslexia, reading & language processing disorders, auditory processing disorders, attention deficit disorder, neurological disorders, and other specific learning disabilities.

The school’s specialized and tailored curriculum is designed to compensate for or overcome dyslexia and the other learning disorders. Because of their students’ difficulty in functioning in a normal school setting, they offer specialized methods and materials recommended by doctors, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. Students usually gain between 1.5 to 2.5 years in reading scores every year.

What Makes Brookwood Christian School Special?

Personal daily attention is given to each student to improve the student’s low attention span and to provide an environment in which their students can adjust to a normal competitive classroom situation and to help them qualify for future post secondary education and independent living.

BCS is the only school in our area to offer multi-age classes based on student learning styles and strengths. We test students in reading and math to determine placement. Also, we accept students other Christian Schools and Dyslexia schools do not accept.

There are only 6 schools in Metro area that serve students with dyslexia or other language processing disorders. Only 3 serve middle school students and only 2 serve high school students. We are one of those that serve all 3 categories, and the only one that serves language processing disorders other than dyslexia.
