2026 Julian V. Smith Community Service Award Recipient Announced

Capital City Bank Group has named Capital City Home Loans CEO and Managing Partner Greg Shumate recipient of the 2026 Julian V. Smith Community Service Award. Shumate was recognized before an assembly of 200 fellow associates and shareowners at the Capital City Bank Group Annual Shareowners’ Meeting, Tuesday, April 21, at the Florida State University Turnbull Conference Center in Tallahassee, Fla., where the company is headquartered.

With more than four decades in mortgage banking, Greg has dedicated his career to helping individuals and families achieve homeownership and carried that same passion into the communities he serves. His impact spans affordable housing, community revitalization and economic development, with leadership roles in organizations such as the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Northside Hospital Gwinnett, Georgia Gwinnett College, Community Foundation of Northeast Georgia and Warrick Dunn Charities, along with hands-on service supporting Habitat for Humanity and the Fuller Center for Housing. Through his efforts, Greg is helping strengthen his community and setting an example for us all. In honor of his dedication, the Capital City Bank Group Foundation will make a donation on Greg’s behalf to the organization of his choice.
The Julian V. Smith Community Service Award was established in 1989 and named for Julian V. Smith, an initial member of the Capital City Bank Group Board and dedicated associate who spent his entire career with Capital City Bank. The award seeks to honor the legacy of community service Julian built and is presented to one associate each year who selflessly gives back to his or her community through volunteerism and leadership.
