The Cobb Chamber is proud to be celebrating 26 years of Give Our Schools a Hand (GOSH). A salute to education in Cobb County, GOSH events bring educators, students, parents, businesses and community leaders together to honor education through three distinctive events: the Handprint Unveiling Ceremony (Oct. 1), the Teacher of the Year Breakfast (Oct. 28) and Teacher of the Year Pep Rally (Oct. 28).
At the Handprint Unveiling Ceremony on Oct. 1, the Cobb Chamber uncovered the handprints of the Cobb County and Marietta City system-wide Teachers of the Year with a crowd of students, colleagues and members of the community. The public was invited to attend this event in Glover Park on the Marietta Square, as the two honored teachers were the 26th pair to leave their handprint legacy on the Teacher Walk of Honor, on West Park Square.
Continuing the salute to education, the breakfast and pep rally on Tuesday, Oct. 28 honored all Cobb County and Marietta City and post-secondary Teachers of the Year at Roswell Street Baptist Church. The day started with an invitation-only breakfast for the teachers, principals and guests followed by a pep rally, for students and community members to cheer on their favorite teachers. These events kicked off GOSH Week where the community and local businesses were encouraged to honor and show support for their teachers and public education systems.
Ed Voyles Automotive Group capped off the celebration by presenting the district Teachers of the Year for Marietta City Schools and Cobb County School District’s elementary, middle and high school top Teachers of the Year a free, one-year car lease at the Cobb Chamber’s First Monday Breakfast on Nov. 3, bringing the GOSH events to a close.
Through the years, the GOSH program has motivated the community to take an active role in Cobb’s public school systems and has attracted local and national attention to the quality of education in Cobb County. Dating back to 1988, GOSH has become one of the nation’s largest celebrations honoring local teachers of the year and celebrating more than 120 teachers here in Cobb County.
