The Cobb Chamber of Commerce recognized eleven businesses for their community service contributions at its First Monday Breakfast today at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest.
The annual Cobb Chamber/Georgia Trend Magazine Business Community Service Awards recognize deserving Cobb businesses for their service to the community through support of not-for-profit organizations. Congratulations to this year’s honorees:

- General Electric; nominated by Communities in Schools of Marietta/Cobb County, Inc.
- Printpack, Inc.; nominated by The Center for Children & Young Adults
- SA White/Mobilized Fuels; nominated by YWCA of Northwest Georgia
- Star-Tech, Inc.; nominated by Reconnecting Families
- Vulcan Materials Company; nominated by Kennesaw Police – Law Enforcement Torch Run
- Zenith Design Group; nominated by Kiwanis Club of Marietta Foundation, Inc.
The 2011 Business Community Service Awards feature several changes since last year’s program, including the addition of an overall winner from the nominees. The overall winner will receive the Sam Olens Business Community Service Award, named for the Cobb native and Georgia Attorney General.
“Sam Olens has been instrumental in countless organizations and many initiatives throughout our county,” said Rob Garcia, chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. “The impact he has made on our community will continue to leave a great legacy for years to come.”
This year’s Sam Olens Business Community Service Award winner is Balfour Beatty Construction for their active role in the Cobb community and volunteer efforts with SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. In the past year, Balfour Beatty Construction has contributed nearly $210,000 to 32 not-for-profit organizations.
