Mount Paran Christian School students had a busy fall semester demonstrating servant-leadership through acts of service that live out the school mission “to honor God, love others, and walk in Truth.”
At MPCS, students develop a heart for service through coordinated service opportunities and student-led initiatives. From on-campus mentorship opportunities between high school students and lower school children through the MPCS 11:1 Effect program to the annual senior citizens’ dance attended by MPC student-athletes, engaging with one another and with the community helps students open their hearts to sharing the love of Jesus with others.
Here are some highlights of service projects Mount Paran Christian School students have meaningfully contributed to during the fall semester.
National Honor Society Supports Cobb Diaper Day
In October, the MPCS National Honor Society chapter hosted its annual diaper drive to benefit Cobb Children’s Fund Diaper Day. MPCS students contributed to the overall total of 140,000 diapers collected this year to support families in need.
Schoolwide Food Drive Benefitting MUST Ministries
During its annual fall food drive, Mount Paran Christian School collected more than 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to benefit MUST Ministries. The middle school alone collected more than 6,000 items as part of the MPCS middle school competition.
MPC Baseball Teams Support Veterans and the Homeless
The MPC baseball teams, led by player Sean Westmoreland, collected items to send to U.S. troops serving overseas for the holidays. The team collected enough items to send three large boxes of favorite items, including snacks and puzzle books.
MPC baseball players also collected more than 100 new and gently used sleeping bags and tents for the homeless in Cobb County. This annual drive is especially helpful this time of year as the weather turns colder.
Key Club Blood Drive
Eleven members of the MPCS Key Club volunteered to host a blood drive at the school to benefit the American Red Cross. In all, 21 pints of blood were collected.
Christmas Toy Drive for Mission 1:27
MPCS students in the National Honor Society and Beta Club volunteered with the Mission 1:27 Christmas shop as cashiers, shopping assistants, and gift wrappers. The students also led an on-campus toy drive, with MPCS families donating more than 6,000 toys for low-income families to provide Christmas toys for their children at greatly-reduced prices.
Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy and Spanish Club Service Project
The MPCS Chick-fil-A Leader Academy and Spanish Clubs teamed up to celebrate the meaning of Christmas with the students of Lambs Christian Academy. This initiative was a part of a “Do Good December” service project. Donations from members of the high school Spanish Club were gifted to the tuition-free Christian preschool. MPCS students hosted a program that included crafts, games, cookie-decorating, and a visit and Christmas story from MPCS high school student “Santa” Zach Swanson. Meals were provided by sponsoring partner, Chick-fil-A of West Cobb.
MPCS Christmas Market
MPCS sixth-grade student Isabella de Jesus participated in the MPCS Family Christmas Market as a means to support others. By setting up a vendor booth, de Jesus sold handmade chocolates, collecting $375 in proceeds to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
