Former Cobb County DA Joyette Holmes to Join GDCR Attorneys at Law

GDCR Attorneys at Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Joyette Holmes as a member. Holmes will join the firm on February 1.

Holmes comes to GDCR after serving as the District Attorney for Cobb Judicial Circuit. Her extensive experience led to her selection by Governor Brian Kemp to lead the District Attorney’s Office.

She made Cobb County history by becoming the first female and African American to serve as both Chief Magistrate and District Attorney. She was also appointed as the special prosecutor in the Ahmaud Arbery case, which drew headlines nationwide.

Prior, Holmes served as the Chief Magistrate Judge for Cobb County, as an Assistant District Attorney, as an Assistant Solicitor General, and as a private business owner and Defense Attorney in the Law Office of Joyette Holmes.

Holmes was selected as the 2019 Cobb County Citizen of the Year and one of Cobb Life Magazine’s “20 Rising Stars under 40.” The Cobb NAACP and the Cobb Ministerial Alliance have both honored her with awards named for United States Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. And she has received a Community Service Award named for one of her mentors and retired Georgia Supreme Court Justice Robert Benham.

She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and serves in the Rho Zeta Omega – Cobb County Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Holmes also serves on the boards of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Must Ministries, the Cobb Community Foundation and the Davis Direction Foundation. She is also a Life Member of the Cobb County NAACP Chapter.

The Valdosta native earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Georgia in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law.  She is married to Smyrna native Bridges Holmes. They have two teenage daughters.

“We are extremely excited and pleased to add Joyette as a partner and member of the GDCR family,” said Scott Gregory, GDCR managing member.

“Joyette has a strong and proven track record in our profession, including serving as a prosecutor, judge and District Attorney in Cobb County.  In addition, we look forward to supporting her with her vision to assist youth in jeopardy who have little to no access or support in navigating an increasingly complex, insensible, and regulated society. Joyette is a major addition to our team at GDCR, and she will help us become a better, more diverse, and stronger organization into the future.”
