Every small business has a story but Gaskins Surveying & Engineering Company’s reads like a novel. With a 40-year history, riveting challenges and inspirational triumphs, Gaskins’ story is something out of a movie.
From 2007 through 2011, Gaskins faced some of the most challenging times in the business’ history -thirteen of their top 15 clients ceased to do business, revenues fell from $7 million to $1 million, the company wrote-off $1 million in bad debt and long-time owner Johnny Gaskins began his fight with the devastating disease ALS. A lot for any company to deal with, Gaskins began a long road back to the top, finding an outstanding leader and CEO in Brandon Hutchins and acquiring two competing companies. Through the rough times employees grew closer together and rallied for success.
Now, business has turned around for Gaskins, who posted a 25.1 percent growth in sales in 2014. They maintain a culture that encourages long-term relationships with clients, other employees and the community.
