On Thursday, October 8, from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., Chef Henry Chandler commemorates the 7th anniversary of the liver transplant that saved his life with a celebration to help others who need the help of the Georgia Transplant Foundation.
This annual event, held upstairs at Henry’s, above the main restaurant, donates 100% of its proceeds, thousands of dollars, to the Georgia Transplant Foundation. The evening will feature signature Cajun dishes, a raffle for an Apple Watch, and a performance by “Songbird of the South” Melanie Denard. A live auction will include items such as:

Chef Henry has planned a delicious assortment of dishes for the evening, including: Boiled Jumbo Shrimp, Bourbon Mac & Cheese, Mardi Gras Chicken, Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice, Blondie Squares and Chef’s newest dessert, Gotta-Havit!“This is our 6th Liverversary Celebration and every year it gets better,” the chef said. “Last year we raised over $17,500 and we will, of course, top that this year. Every cent goes to someone just like me—someone so afraid they won’t make it and praying for the miracle of a donor,” Henry said. “We get more impressed every year with the generosity of our Henry’s family, how ready they are to jump in to give the gift of life to others.” Attendees can purchase general tickets ($60 each), which are only available through the Georgia Transplant Foundation by advance purchase only. Chef Henry loves an occasion to offer others Lagniappe, a Cajun term for “something extra.” On the night of the event, he’ll give 15% of all downstairs dining revenue to the Georgia Transplant Foundation, so that every diner can be a part of the important effort simply by having dinner at Henry’s on October 8. Chef Henry works tirelessly on the cause of organ donation, a cause so personally close to him, throughout the year. In 2007 Henry was diagnosed with a liver cancer that proved unresponsive to treatment. It left the Chef, so well known for his love of life, with one option for survival—a liver transplant. With many prayers from family, friends and restaurant patrons and the abilities of the Piedmont Hospital transplant team, Henry got his successful transplant on September 2, 2008. The Liverversary Celebration is just one of the chef’s efforts to raise awareness around the importance of organ donation. Each April he also encourages restaurant guests to sign up for the Donate Life Registry with his annual “Chef Henry’s Challenge to Save a Life,” during ‘Donate Life Month.’ This year over 1,000 individuals accepted Chef’s challenge and took the pledge at Henry’s Louisiana Grill. “Every year, this important celebration reminds me not only how happy and thankful I am to still be here, but how important it is to help others have the chance at their own ‘I survived’ anniversaries. The Georgia Transplant Foundation makes that happen and I want to do everything I can to help them do it,” Chef Henry said. “When you come and have an unforgettable time out at my house this October 8, you help make it happen too.”
