On Thursday, October 27 from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., Chef Henry Chandler commemorates the eighth anniversary of his life-saving liver transplant by hosting “Liverversary”, a celebration that raises awareness for organ donation and much-needed funds for the Georgia Transplant Foundation (GTF).
This annual event, held upstairs at Henry’s Louisiana Grill, has helped raise over $100,000 for Georgia Transplant Foundation to date. GTF is focused on providing both financial and educational assistance during a time that is often overwhelming for those undergoing or waiting for a transplant in the state of Georgia. In 2015, GTF gave more than $1.2 million in direct financial assistance to nearly 1,000 clients in the organ transplant community.
At this year’s Liverversary, guests will enjoy Chef Henry’s specialty Louisiana dishes, upbeat music, and a raffle prize from Cabela’s. There will also be an exciting live auction of items donated by Governor’s Gun Club, Lakepoint Sporting Community, and Three-13 Salon and Spa, as well as unique experiences like a private dinner with Chef Henry, a vacation in Gatlinburg, and a couples spa and golf package.
As always, the Cajun chef has planned a delicious spread for the upstairs event, including boiled jumbo shrimp, bourbon mac and cheese, Mardi Gras chicken over collards, gumbo, and gator cakes. This year, dessert will be generously donated by downtown Acworth’s Cakehouse on Main. Henry’s signature crafted cocktails, wine, and Abita beer will be complimentary for the first hour of the event, followed by a cash bar.
“This is our seventh Liverversary celebration, and as we raise funds to help support transplant recipients and their families, I am reminded how grateful I am to be on this earth,” Chef Henry Chandler said. “Every penny goes to help someone just like me—desperate for a miracle and counting on the kindness of a stranger to survive. We want to thank our Henry’s family (our loyal guests), fellow transplant recipients and the amazing volunteers at the Georgia Transplant Foundation for supporting Liverversary. We invite the community to come experience it with us!”
Henry’s encourages attendees to become a sponsor, which includes reserved seating for eight as well as advertising opportunities throughout the event. Individuals can also purchase general tickets in advance for $60 each. In addition, guests can help by simply dining downstairs at the restaurant the same evening. Henry’s is donating 15% of all food and non-alcoholic beverage revenue to GTF so that even more supporters can participate in this worthy cause.
This Liverversary event comes less than a month after Chef Henry was honored at the “Angels of Life” benefit hosted on October 2, by Three-13 Salon, Spa, & Boutique. He received the Halo Award, which recognized him as an “everyday angel” who does exemplary work as a volunteer and brings deserving attention to the efforts of the Georgia Transplant Foundation and to the importance of organ donation.
In 2007, Chef Henry was diagnosed with liver cancer, and several treatment options proved unsuccessful. Then, on September 2, 2008, thanks to the excellent team at Piedmont Hospital, he received a transplant that saved his life. Now and throughout the year, Chef Henry works tirelessly toward the cause of organ donation.
Every April, for “Donate Life Month,” Chef Henry encourages restaurant guests to sign up for the Donate Life Registry with his annual “Chef Henry’s Challenge to Save a Life.” This year, over 1,000 individuals took the pledge to become organ donors as more than 5,000 Georgians wait to receive a transplant.
“Thanks to Chef Henry’s dedication to the transplant community and his annual Liverversary event, more than 150 Georgians have directly benefited and received financial assistance from Georgia Transplant Foundation’s medication, dental, emergency, transportation, and housing assistance programs,” said Pat Rotchford, Executive Director of the Georgia Transplant Foundation. “Without people like Chef Henry, we would not be able to fulfill our mission and continue enriching lives every day.”
