The College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University held its graduation ceremony on June 16 at the KSU Center. The 98 men and women among the college’s summer Class of 2016 were able to walk across the stage with a story of how they each kept striving toward their goals.
In her graduation ceremony speech, Assistant Dean Tamara grooms congratulated the graduates for their endeavors. “What you’ve accomplished tonight is a significant achievement,” she said. “We hope it’s only a small stepping stone for you as you continue your journey of empowerment – and we look forward to following your success.”
Grooms acknowledged that all graduates need to be commended for making the commitment and successfully completing the requirements of their respective programs. “Our students work full-time and have other responsibilities. We understand the sacrifices that they have made to be here,” Grooms said.
For small business owner Marisol Flores, obtaining her Bookkeeper Professional Certificate is a noteworthy stepping stone. She is now better equipped to run her business.
“I didn’t realize all the things I needed to know to run a business,” she said. “I definitely needed this program. The QuickBooks training was very helpful for me to learn how to customize the software to my company’s needs. I’m very happy I did this!”
Andrew Meyer, a 2015 graduate of North Paulding High School, received a certificate in Construction Project Management.
“I found out about the program from my grandfather who saw flyer for it,” said Meyer. “I’ve always been interested in construction. This program provided the boost that I needed.”
Meyer, who previously didn’t know how to price out contracts, says the program gave him the skills he needed.
“The instructors were great,” he added. “They were very flexible with our schedules and kept our interest and communicated the subject well.”
Meyer’s ultimate goal is to “move to the Great Lakes and become a custom wooden boat builder.” For now, he plans on enrolling at KSU for a degree in Architectural Drawing & Design.
Grooms ended the graduation ceremony speech by saying, “You’re going to advance in life by what you’re going to continue to learn. When challenges come, know that anchored deep within you is the ability to learn and grow.”
Adult learners, career changers, college students and recent graduates are welcome to attend an Open House at the KSU Center on July 28 at 6 p.m. This event will feature interactive information sessions exploring professional certificate programs. Guests will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with instructors and graduates. All attendees will receive an exclusive 10 percent discount and the opportunity to be entered into a Braves ticket drawing.
