The first annual LakePoint Basketball Showcase begins with the lone girls match-up of the day as The Lovett School takes on Winder-Barrow. The game will tip-off at 1:00 P.M. at the LakePoint Champions Center.
Winder-Barrow is led by Head Coach Brandon Thomas, who is looking to continue their success this year coming off a record setting 26-win season and a state championship appearance a year ago. WinderBarrow is led by the #1 ESPN Ranked girls player in the nation, Junior, Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Averaging 16 PPG and 10.6 RPG last year, Nelson-Ododa received multiple awards including Region 8-AAAAA Player of the Year and the Athens Banner-Herald Co-Player of the Year. She is being actively recruited by Ohio State, South Carolina, Duke, and UConn, among others. But even with the high-level talent NelsonOdoda possesses, Winder-Barrow is successful by providing a complete team effort. Latrice Perkins (Jr.) led the team in steals and assists last year, while Lexi Maddox (Sr.) has the ability to drive, post, and shoot from the forward position.
On the other side of the court, the Lovett School, coached by Liz Kennedy, will look to build on a successful 2015-16 season. After a tough overtime loss in the opening round of last year’s state playoffs, the Lions are looking forward to a new opportunity to get back to the playoffs and make a deep run. Due to key off-season injuries, Coach Kennedy will lean on younger talent to develop quickly and grow into leadership roles. The Lovett School has a long-standing tradition of winning on the court, with their last Georgia State Championship coming in 2012, so this match-up will be an early season test for a young Lovett team.
This game will be the first of five during the inaugural LakePoint Basketball Showcase presented by the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. The Showcase will take place at LakePoint’s Champions Center located in Emerson, GA. Tickets will be available to the public which can be purchased at the door for $7 per Adult and $5 per student. Floor seating will also be available for $10 per game. For more information visit lakepointsports.com or contact Dean Keener at dean.keener@lakepointsports.com or (404) 263-0464.
