March 17 GSO Chorus and Georgia Symphony concert features Robert Ray’s powerful Gospel Mass

The Marietta High School Chorus joins as special guests

The GSO Chorus, accompanied by the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, will perform Robert Ray’s unique and powerful “Gospel Mass” on March 17, 2024, at 5 p.m. at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey and Family Performance Center in Kennesaw, Ga. This matinee concert also features the GSO Chamber Singers and special guests, the Marietta High School Chorus and their director, Dr. Brittny Woods.

Ray’s “Gospel Mass” is a singular achievement of African-American music, performed by choirs and churches all over the world. In the spirit of inclusivity, Ray chose an English adaptation of the Mass, which makes it appealing for audiences in concert and liturgical contexts. The work is a toe-tapping, infectious work infused with touches of rock, jazz, funk, blues and pop.

The program also will include Cedric Dent’s “Examine Me,” Rollo Dilworth’s “United in Purpose,” Adolphus Hailstork’s “I am Only One, and the debut of “A Hymn,” by GSOC accompanist Jakari Rush.

Ticket prices range from $15 – $27. For more information, or to purchase tickets online, visit https://www.georgiasymphony.org/all-events/.
