On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, the Marietta City Council unanimously approved the renaming of Franklin Road to Franklin Gateway. After much consideration and input from the public and residents of changing the name, City Council was able to reach a decision on the name for which everyone can be proud.
The name change is effective immediately, but residents and businesses alike will have a year to change their addresses and the City of Marietta will work closely with the United States Post Office and the 911 Center to help the process.
The idea of Franklin Gateway originates from the 2013 Redevelopment Bond which was approved by City voters in November 2013 when citizens of the City of Marietta passed a $68 million Redevelopment Bond. Franklin Gateway bond funds have been invested to purchase four aging apartment complexes on Franklin Gateway leading to new private investment and the creation of over 1,120 jobs in the corridor and bringing the new Major League Soccer team, Atlanta United FC’s state of the art training headquarters to the area.
