Mount Paran Christian School’s (MPCS) eighth-grade class showcased their extensive knowledge and hard work during the highly-anticipated 20th Century Fair. This event, a culmination of months of interdisciplinary studies, allowed students to present their research on influential historical figures, events, or battles from the 20th century to a diverse audience of lower school students, middle school peers, high school mentors, and supportive staff and parents.
The 20th Century Fair is not just a traditional history presentation. It serves as a valuable learning experience, seamlessly integrating English Language Arts, Bible, and History. Each eighth-grader chose a subject they were passionate about, diving into deep research and culminating in oral presentations guided by a biblical worldview. Through this process, students not only developed their research and communication skills but also reinforced the significance of applying a biblical perspective when examining history.
“By presenting these historical narratives, students gain insight into pivotal moments and figures while growing in their ability to articulate their thoughts effectively,” said Sarah Black, MPCS middle school social studies teacher. “The fair promotes critical thinking, historical understanding, and a deeper appreciation of how faith and history intersect.”
This year’s event also featured an inspiring guest speaker, Lt. Col. Richard Peace, who delivered a powerful message on the importance of perseverance and adaptability. Lt. Col. Peace’s storied career includes time as a former University of Wyoming athlete, Dallas Cowboys player, CFL player, Command F-16 and F-35 pilot, Delta Airlines captain, and the Deputy Operations Group Commander of the historic 332 Fighter Wing of the Tuskegee Airmen. His speech, focused on the themes of “Pivot and Persevere,” resonated deeply with students as they embark on their own personal journeys toward adulthood and their roles in God’s kingdom.
The 20th Century Fair is a treasured event that goes beyond mere history lessons. It equips students with essential skills such as written and verbal communication, research proficiency, and the ability to think critically about the past. By presenting history through a biblical lens, the fair encourages students to see how God’s truth is interwoven throughout human events.
MPCS is incredibly proud of the dedication, passion, and academic rigor demonstrated by the eighth-grade class in this remarkable event. Their hard work is a testament to the commitment of both students and faculty in pursuing excellence in education while fostering spiritual growth.
