Rep. Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) was recently on campus to announce the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District. Mount Paran Christian School high school students Aiden Gilmore, Ethan Konnick, and David Wu won first place for their “Emotion Detection Analysis and Reflection” app. The mobile app was developed for users to be able to use the app daily as a diary and can be used as creatively as users want it to be. The student developers plan to continue developing the app by adding a feature that will allow the user to access Scripture based on their emotion.
The Congressional App Challenge is designed for students who aspire to learn computer coding and express an interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Rep. Loudermilk shared, “The Congressional App Challenge is an excellent way to spark curiosity in computer science and encourage the younger generation to advance their education and pursue careers in this important field. I’m always blown away by the talent of the students in Georgia’s 11th Congressional District, and this year was no different. The excitement this competition brings to our students, parents, teachers, and community is inspiring, and I’m proud of this year’s contestants and our winners.”
Each winning app will be featured in the U.S. Capitol and on the House of Representatives official website (House.gov), which has ten million visitors per year. Ethan Konnick, visibly proud of the accomplishment states, “I am really honored that we were selected to be the winners of this competition. It really means a lot that we were able to get recognition for all of the hours that we put into this project as well as the hours of learning we have done through Mount Paran Christian School.”
