Lace up those running shoes because the 16th annual Cobb County 5K to benefit Make-A-Wish Georgia returns to Marietta Square Saturday, Oct. 1, at 8 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate.
The proceeds of the race go to Make-A-Wish Georgia to benefit children of Cobb County battling life-threatening medical conditions. In 2015 the proceeds from the race was $38,000, granting four wishes for Cobb County children to make their dreams come true.
“It’s been a tremendous joy working with Make-A-Wish Georgia to raise money and grant these children’s wishes,” said County Manager David Hankerson. “Having the support from the participants and sponsors year after year, is a true example of community.”
Registration is open at active.com, and closes Wednesday, Sept. 28. Mailed in registration forms must be post-marked by Tuesday, Sept. 20. Pre-registration before Sept. 20 is $20 untimed and $25 timed. After Sept. 20, registration fees are $25 untimed and $35 timed. Group discounts are also available for participants. Groups of 10 or more are $15 timed and $20 timed per runner, and school students, teachers and school groups pay a special rate of $10 per runner. The fee for Phantom Runners, someone who wants to support the 5K but can’t attend the race, is $20.
Walk-up registration starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. The 3.1 mile loop guides participants around historic neighborhoods of Marietta and ends back at the Square. A map of the route can be found on Cobb County 5K homepage under race route.
Award medals will be handed out by Wish Kids in attendance in men’s overall, women’s overall, men’s master overall and women’s master overall categories. This Cobb County 5K is a timed and untimed race for the Peachtree Qualifier.
Cobb County 5K to benefit Make-A-Wish Georgia began in 2001 as a way to give back to the community. Since 2001, the event has raised over $400,000 for children with life-threatening medical conditions and has granted 76 wishes.
