The Georgia Ballet has recently announced its 2016-2017 season including “Peter Pan”, “The Nutcracker” and “The Sleeping Beauty.”
This season, The Georgia Ballet’s focus is family friendly stories that we all know and love. There is Wendy and Peter’s magical voyage to Neverland with swashbuckling swordfights, enchanting mermaids and the color escapades o
f the Lost Boys. Then The Georgia Ballet will kick off the holiday season with the time-honored winter favorite, “The Nutcracker.” Finally, The Georgia Ballet will bring us colorful fairies, a magic spinning wheel and the love between a prince and a princess in the beloved story of Briar Rose.
“The productions we chose are fun for the audience as well as the dancers,” said Artistic Director Daet Rodriquez. “They allow for so much creativity and expression. Our last season was a lot of fun learning with me getting to know the dancers and the dancers getting to know me. While we always continue to learn, I am excited to be working with the returning members and the new dancers we have brought in. Their wide talents and backgrounds bring personality and style that I am excited to work with.”
“Peter Pan” and “The Sleeping Beauty” will be held at the J. Alton Keith Theater. “The Nutcracker” will be held at the Jennie T. Anderson Theater. “Peter Pan” will start the season off Oct. 7 thru 9, “The Nutcracker” will kick off the Christmas season Nov. 29 thru Dec.8, and “The Sleeping Beauty” will wrap up the season March 3-5.
The Georgia Ballet will also hold “Dancers Up Close.” This opportunity allows 100 members of the community to come into the studio and watch the dancers perform pieces of many different genres that they have choreographed themselves. “Dancers Up Close” will be held on April 22.
“One thing we have learned about our community is how important family is and that is what inspired our next season,” said Executive Director Joy Johnson. “Each production is a family friendly story that most everyone knows. Now it is our turn to tell the story in a way that many have never seen before with ballet. We are very fortunate to have Daet Rodriguez as our artistic director. His passion and dedication can be seen every day he is in the studios. It has been an honor to work with him and have his international experience brought to Marietta.”
The Georgia Ballet will also offer field trips as part of their Art in Education program. Metro Atlanta school children get the opportunity to attend abbreviated matinees of the season performances followed by a question and answer session with the dancers and directors.
Tickets will go on sale July 1 and will be available for purchase at www.georgiaballet.org. For more information, visit www.georgiaballet.org or call 770-528-0881.
The Georgia Ballet is a nonprofit organization comprised of three key components that make the organization exceptional: the Professional Company, The School of The Georgia Ballet and the “Arts in Education” community outreach programs. The Professional Company is composed of exceptionally talented dancers with versatile abilities. Our professional dancers have trained and performed across the U.S. and the world. The goal is to fill the artistic voids in communities throughout Georgia, by enlightening students’ spirits and introducing them to the art of ballet. Each season, the professional company performs numerous productions for the public and thousands of school children.
