On Tuesday, May 10, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta (JLCM) wrapped up the 2015-2016 membership year with its Annual Meeting held at the Marietta Country Club. It was an exciting night for Provisional, Active, Sustaining members and guests in attendance. President Carey Merritt and her fellow board members made various presentations throughout the night.
One of the highlights of the evening included the award of an annual grant to the Cobb County Youth Museum in the amount of $1,500. In 1964, the Junior Welfare League, now the JLCM, organized the Cobb County Youth Museum – an educational resource center offering children the opportunity to learn about significant historical, social and cultural event through instructional activities which integrate arts and education, while emphasizing personal involvement and participation. This partnership remains today.
Several awards were presented to during the event, honoring women for their service to the League and to the community. The awards include:

Sustainer of the Year: Cathy Prillaman Brooks
Provisional of the Year: April Phillips (Fall Class), Nadia Williams (Spring Class)
Friend of the League Award: Bonnie Buckner Reavis, Zenith Design Group
President’s Award: Anastasia Kipreos
The Honorable P. Harris Hines, presiding justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia, presided over the installation of the new officers and swearing-in of the president for 2016-2017, Amanda Seals. Board members for the upcoming year include Victoria Porter – President-Elect; Laura Bottoms-Higginbotham – Vice President of Administration; Juliet Henderson – Vice President of Community; Kennedy Reese – Vice President of Finance; Elizabeth McMahon – Vice President of Membership; Serina Cochran – Nominating Chair; Samantha Johnson – Sustainer Director; and Emily McDonald –Treasurer.
The 2015-2016 has been strong year for the League. Outside support for the JLCM continues to grow, as new relationships are created. This year, three new fundraisers were launched with great success – the Gingerbread House Competition and Showcase, Breakfast with Santa and Mistletoe To Go. Over 354 Provisional, Active and Sustaining members of the League gave back to the Cobb County community through their volunteer efforts. Along with the eight community partners supported this year, the JLCM was instrumental in the success of Cobb Diaper Day, Operation Warmth and Party for a Purpose, an event raising awareness regarding foster care in Cobb County, and celebrating foster children and foster parents.
Founded in 1933, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of our members and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
