Three senior student-athletes from Mount Paran Christian School have committed to continue their love of sport at the collegiate level. Kara Dunn will play basketball for Georgia Tech. Emma Norton joins the University of Georgia swim team. Katelyn Dunning will head to the University of West Georgia to play basketball.
During her junior year at MPCS, Kara Dunn scored her 1,000th point for the Lady Eagles basketball team. She achieved this incredible milestone in just two seasons, joining an elite group of MPC basketball players. She was also part of the 2021 MPC volleyball team that just brought home the State championship trophy. Now, she looks forward to the time she will spend with the Yellow Jackets. “I chose Georgia Tech because they feel like family,” Kara said. “I can see myself thriving there on, and off, the court.”
The UGA Dawg Nation is about to welcome another fantastic MPC swimmer student-athlete! Emma Norton follows her brother, Mitchell, to the University of Georgia to join the swim team. During her time at MPCS, Emma has certainly made a mark. She won second in State in the 500-yard freestyle during her freshman year (2018-2019), took first in State in the 500-yard freestyle during her sophomore year (2019-2020) season, and brought home two more State titles her junior year (2020-2021) – first in State in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. She is the first girl to earn back-to-back State champion titles in the 500 freestyle at Mount Paran Christian School.
MPC Lady Eagles basketball point guard Katelyn Dunning, who has been described as a “showstopper” by PrepGirlsHoops, is quick and great with handling and creating her own shots. She fielded numerous offers from college recruiters but ultimately decided to join the University of West Georgia Wolves. She said, “I chose [UWG] because I felt wanted, and I know it sounds cliché, but I felt at home. Meeting the President of the University of West Georgia and being around the team and coaches and getting to know them helped me realize that’s exactly where I wanted to be. Also, my major, sport management, is one of the majors they are known for!”
