Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia Announces the 15th Annual RACE TO SEE 5K/1K in Smyrna on August 23, 2025

Vision Rehabilitation Services of Georgia (VRS) is proud to announce the 15th annual RACE TO SEE 5K/1K event, returning to Smyrna. This meaningful community event will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Brinkley Park (1270 Hunter St, Smyrna, GA 30080), and aims to raise critical funds and awareness for Georgians who are blind or visually impaired.

The day begins with registration at 6:30 AM, followed by the 1K fun run at 7:15 AM and the 5K race at 7:30 AM. Runners, walkers, families, pets and community supporters are all encouraged to participate.

“We’re thrilled to bring this race back to Smyrna,” said Jen Williams, Executive Director at VRS. “It’s more than a race, it’s a celebration of independence, community, and the belief that vision loss should never limit someone’s potential.”

Why We Race

Founded in 1983 by Sarah Sentell Scott in Smyrna, who lost much of her own vision in her 40s, VRS was created to fill a vital gap in services for those adjusting to life with vision loss. Her legacy lives on through the organization’s personalized, one-on-one support model that serves clients across Cobb County, Metro Atlanta, and over 30 counties throughout Northwest Georgia.

The RACE TO SEE helps fund life-changing programs, including:

  • Comprehensive Low Vision Evaluations
  • Access Technology Training for smartphones and computers
  • Orientation & Mobility instruction for safe navigation
  • Independent Living Skills for daily routines
  • Mental Health Therapy tailored to vision loss adjustment

Get Involved with RACE TO SEE

VRS invites our neighbors in Smyrna to get involved by either being a sponsor, in-kind donor, volunteer, or participant.   If you are a local business or organization, the RACE TO SEE offers a range of sponsorship levels available to suit all budgets while maximizing brand exposure and impact within the Cobb County area.

If you are a local resident and have seen the impacts of low/no vision and feel led to get involved, we offer both donation and volunteer opportunities. And if you are a local resident that wants to participate in the family-friendly race, we would love to have you join us on August 23!

Whether you’re a local business looking to sponsor, a neighbor ready to volunteer or donate, or a family excited to run, the RACE TO SEE offers a meaningful way for everyone in Smyrna to get involved and make a lasting impact.
