Veterinary Products Inc. is structured as a co-op and stocks products that animal hospitals use daily in their exam and surgery rooms. Combined with their vendor partner, Animal Health International, VPI members have access to over 3,400 competitively priced items. In 2013, VPI invested in an independent, third party research study of its stockholders to get an understanding of their perceptions of VPI and from their perspective, what the strengths of VPI are.
VPI was built with the interests of the smaller veterinary practice in mind. Because VPI was focused by veterinarians, and the business model was built from the ground up for veterinarians, VPI is able to treat every stockholder fairly and equally regardless of the size of the practice. VPI’s mission is to help preserve the independent veterinarian practice model. VPI takes pride in providing personal service, fast delivery and access to smaller quantities of product as needed.
VPI understands who its key customers are – the smaller one-to-two doctor practices. The pharmaceutical companies and manufactures of medical products focus on the large corporate hospitals because that is where the big purchases are, but these smaller practices make up 80 percent of the animal hospitals in the U.S.
