The Atlanta Braves have partnered with Cobb County and Marietta City Schools to create the Atlanta Braves Leadership Institute, a program designed to develop student leaders and provide them with impactful leadership skills. The Atlanta Braves Leadership Institute will engage local high school students with relevant content, expose them to leadership insights, and equip them with the tools needed to make a tangible difference in their community.
For the first installment, on Wednesday, September 13, the Braves partner with SunTrust for a session called “Lead Yourself.” SunTrust representatives will teach students to take responsibility for themselves and their future.
Jenna Kelly, SunTrust President and CEO of the Atlanta Division will greet students and Brian Ford, SunTrust Financial Well-Being Executive, will share practical tips for students so that they may understand financial stability and how it empowers other areas of life.
“SunTrust is proud to partner with the Braves to empower youth with financial confidence,” said Jenna Kelly. “Programs such as the Leadership Institute play an important role in shaping future leaders, and we believe it’s critical for them to have a strong foundation in financial literacy. It is how we activate our purpose of Lighting the Way to Financial Well-Being.”
The students will also participate in a DISC assessment to learn about their strengths and weaknesses so that they may develop strategies to meet the demands of their environment, hear from a former Braves player to understand what investments they made in themselves that led them to their success and visit the SunTrust OnUp Experience where they will participate in interactive activities that focus on financial confidence.
“The Atlanta Braves are honored to launch this exciting new program, and this first session with SunTrust to impact the next generation of leaders,” said Ericka Newsome, Atlanta Braves director of community affairs. “The students will get to participate in thought provoking Q&A sessions with highly respected corporate and civic leaders and learn from some of the very best in Atlanta.”
Launched for the 2017-2018 school year, 68 high school students representing all 17 Cobb County and Marietta City high schools participate in this yearlong leadership experience. The program includes four unique leadership experiences, and a celebration event that will include a signature community impact project.
