The Georgia Symphony Orchestra will host its Sensory Friendly events on April 15, 2023, at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, at the Marietta Performing Arts Center, to provide local families with members that have sensory sensitivities an opportunity to fully experience orchestral music without any of the constraints of a standard performance.
Each of the two performances, featuring the Georgia Symphony Orchestra ensemble and Music Director & Conductor Timothy Verville, will include a 50-minute program where audience members will be able to move about, dance, speak, sing or vocalize.
“Our Sensory Friendly events are a fun and accessible way for our local community members to interact with orchestral music,” said Suzanne Tucker, Executive Director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. “These events are carefully planned to ensure we provide our sensory sensitive listeners and family members with a carefully curated performance from the world of classical music that is focused on their needs.”
Up to 45 minutes before or after each concert, attendees will be able to experience a myriad of instruments first-hand in the lobby. They will be able to interact directly with small percussion instruments and will receive assistance with more complex instruments such as strings and woodwinds. There will also be a Quiet Room for anyone who may need a break from the instrumental sounds. Individuals of any age or ability are welcome to attend.
Tickets for the 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM Sensory Friendly performances can be purchased online at georgiasymphony.org/all-events.
