ASW’s Winterville Gin and Barrel-Rested Winterville Gin, distilled mere steps from Truist Park and finished in barrels from ASW’s official collaboration with the Atlanta Braves, Fiddler Chin Music Rye Whiskey, receive honors at the country’s most prestigious spirits competition
The Battery Atlanta is pleased to announce ASW Distillery, a cornerstone tenant within the vibrant mixed-use home of the Atlanta Braves, has taken home five Gold Medals at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), including two spirits distilled at The Battery Atlanta: Winterville Gin and Barrel-Rested Winterville Gin. This recognition highlights the exceptional quality and innovation of ASW’s portfolio of spirits, which have earned them the honor of being the Most Awarded Craft Distillery at SFWSC since 2018.
“We are incredibly proud of the ASW Distillery team for their dedication to crafting exceptional spirits,” said Jeremy Strife, Executive Vice President of The Atlanta Braves. “These Gold Medals at the SFWSC are a testament to their talent and commitment to innovation and the quality of offerings available at The Battery Atlanta.”
Started in 2000, the SFWSC is one of the most respected competitions in the spirits industry, attracting distilleries from around the world and up to 5,000 entries each year. This year’s blind-tasting competition awarded Gold Medals to ASW’s two distinct gins:
- ASW Winterville Gin: A “New World Style” gin, which tones down the juniper common to London Dry Gins, in favor of citrus and floral elements, including lemon, grapefruit and marigold.
- ASW Barrel-Rested Winterville Gin: A modified botanical list from Winterville Gin, adding coffee, sage, and grains of paradise before aging the gin for 12 months in whiskey barrels from ASW’s official collaboration with the Atlanta Braves, Fiddler Chin Music. The Braves front office hand-selects the barrels for each batch of the Fiddler Chin Music collaboration.
“I’m honored to have the Winterville Gin portfolio recognized at the spirits competition I’ve been following since my early days in the industry over a decade ago,” said Jerry McCall, Distiller of Clear Spirits at ASW Distillery. “It’s great to see gins with less traditional botanicals like marigold and – in the case of Barrel-Rested Winterville Gin – coffee, impress the judges at San Francisco.”
A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America and Cornell University’s famed hospitality programs, McCall crafted the botanical mix for Winterville Gin to pay homage to the marigold that is so celebrated in Winterville, Georgia, from which Winterville Gin takes its name and where ASW’s co-founder, Jim Chasteen, grew up. For the barrel-rested edition, he modified the recipe slightly to incorporate coffee, sage, and grains of paradise – botanicals that his years of experience informed him would mingle well with the Fiddler Chin Music Rye barrels.
“The annual Marigold Festival in Winterville, Georgia showcases one of America’s greatest small towns,” said Jim Chasteen, CEO at ASW Distillery. “Jerry had the vision to include dried marigold to create an incredibly bright and unique recipe that plays well in cocktails and stirs memories of my childhood.”
The Battery Atlanta congratulates ASW Distillery on this well-deserved recognition. Their award-winning spirits continue to elevate the Atlanta dining and beverage scene, making The Battery Atlanta a premier destination for craft spirit enthusiasts.
