Georgia Symphony Orchestra Recognized by Cobb County Board of Commissioners in Honor of 75th Anniversary

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners formally recognized the Georgia Symphony Orchestra (GSO) on September 23 with a proclamation celebrating the organization’s 75th anniversary season.

Founded in 1951 as a small community ensemble, the GSO has evolved into one of the region’s leading cultural institutions, presenting symphonic, choral, and jazz performances, as well as educational and community programs. Today, the organization includes the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO), which is marking its 20th season.

“This recognition affirms what our community already knows—that the GSO is an integral part of Cobb County’s cultural fabric,” said Suzanne Tucker, GSO Executive Director. “We are honored by this proclamation as we celebrate 75 seasons of making music and look ahead to continuing our growth and impact for years to come.”

The proclamation acknowledged the GSO’s contributions to the local economy, its commitment to education, and its role in enriching the quality of life for residents across the region. From iconic symphonic masterpieces to joyful holiday traditions and innovative community programs, the GSO’s 75th anniversary season promises something extraordinary for everyone.

Upcoming performances include Level Up! Music from Video Games on Saturday, October 11, with a sensory-friendly concert at 2 PM and a family concert at 4 PM, and Drama and Destiny: Opera Meets Broadway on Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 PM.
