American Kidney Services received the Distinguished Service Award from the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. It is for the Waste Reduction & Recycling category. While the primary focus of AKS is raising millions of dollars for kidney patients, the side benefit is keeping millions of pounds of textiles out of our landfills each year.
AKS is the Georgia partner of American Kidney Fund, one of the Top Three Charities in the country… 97 cents of every dollar goes to helping kidney patients. AKS collects used clothing and household goods via free home pickup, donation bins throughout Metro Atlanta, and attended trucks in shopping centers and recycle centers. The items are then sold to thrift stores. AKS partners with Value Village Stores. There are 11 in the Atlanta area, including Cobb County. The proceeds from this process are sent to American Kidney Fund. All donated items are tax deductible.
AKS currently works with a several Keep Beautiful organizations in Georgia and will continue to put full efforts into helping to keep used clothing and household goods out of the landfills.
