Hundreds of people walked through doors of KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education for an Open House on July 28. The event, held at the KSU Center (3333 Busbee Drive), featured interactive information sessions exploring more than 50 professional certificate programs. Guests had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with instructors and graduates to discuss programs and career options.
“We are proud to host events like this, providing individuals the opportunity to explore relevant and innovative programs,” said Barbara Calhoun, dean. “By attending this event, everyone has taken one giant step toward personal growth.”
Magdaline Guerrier, a Cobb County resident and mother of two, came to the Open House event to learn more about the college’s Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certificate program.
“I have an MBA in Healthcare Administration and my goal is to tie the two together,” Guerrier said. “I find that now in the job market a certification is more important. I’m excited. It was nice to see everyone in the information session interested in the same field path.”
Paulding County resident Kerry Marcotte joined the Open House hoping to gain some knowledge on the different types of certificate programs, eager to discover something that may peak her interest.
“I have been a stay-at-home mom for many years. I taught preschool for 10 years, and I figured this would be a good way to get my feet wet again,” Marcotte said. “Many positions are asking for important skills and I need to get up to speed with this.”
Open House attendees also had the opportunity to rise above the job market competition with free career coaching sessions provided by KSU’s Career Services. In these sessions, participants learned about resumes, cover letters, interviewing techniques and social networking tools.
Professional programs offered at the college range from Human Resources Management and EKG Technician to Web Design and Culinary Apprenticeship. New programs for the fall include: Facility Management Professional, Residential Landscape Design and Professional Investigator. Many certificate programs are available for Military Education Benefits, payments plans and WIOA funding.
