Former Massachusetts Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney visited Cobb Chamber member Kenny’s Great Pies on Thursday, June 16. Romney, along with Cobb Chamber leaders, Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, City of Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon and Kenny’s Great Pies CEO Kenny Burts discussed the importance of business and government collaboration in the current economic state.
David Connell, Cobb Chamber President and CEO, participated in a roundtable discussion with Bacon, Burts, Olens and Romney. The group debated the entrepreneurial challenges that are unique to the economy’s current state, and the challenges that have arisen for small businesses.
Demming Bass, Cobb Chamber COO, was also in attendance. “The Cobb Chamber is a great ally for any elected official,” said Bass. “We serve as the voice of the business community.” By joining efforts between government elected officials and businesses, the two groups can enhance entrepreneurial growth and advocate for small businesses. “As a Chamber member you’re part of the voice of business,” said Bass. “You can ensure that you have a pro-business climate with your elected officials.”
After enjoying a sample of Kenny’s key lime pie at the roundtable discussion, Romney and Burts toured the company’s facilities. Kenny’s Great Pies, which brings in its own fruit and does its own juicing, was recognized as the Cobb Chamber Small Business of the Year in 1996 and remains an active Chamber member today. “I’ve been a member since the early nineties and it has benefited us tremendously,” said Burts. “Cobb County is one of the finest locations in metro Atlanta.” The company specializes in key lime pies, but also offers mango, lemon and peanut butter flavors.
