A grass-roots movement developed by Cobb County citizens and supported by community leaders designed to celebrate the positive ideals of the United States will be launched on Monday, October 12 with the inaugural Positive American Day.
The Positive American movement (www.positiveamerican.com) was founded by local Cobb County businessman Scott Pederson who has already had experience with national movements and events such as NFL Punt, Pass & Kick, LiveStrong, and Positive Athlete Georgia. The movement starts with citizens making the Positive American Promise which includes flying the American Flag on patriotic holidays, thanking those who have served in the military and public safety, exercising the right to vote, helping another American in need, recognizing that we are “One Nation Under God”, and inspiring a new generation of Positive Americans.
“I am among the many Americans who have grown tired of hearing only the negative stories about our great country”, said Pederson, “And I know I’m not alone. Positive American is for the citizens who still believe America is a great country. Do we have our issues? Of course we do. But we believe that a majority of Americans are very good, and very positive people who love their country”.
On October 12, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., the cities of Acworth, Kennesaw and Powder Springs will celebrate the first annual Positive American Day with events being planned at NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, and First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, and are free to the public. That Monday has traditionally been celebrated as Columbus Day, but county officials wanted to celebrate the day in a unique and uplifting way.
“This Positive American movement is coming at the right time for those of us who believe in American Exceptionalism, and want to paint a vision of what we can be as a nation. I hope it spreads from Cobb County across the nation!” said Congressman Barry Loudermilk.
“The excellent quality of life is a driving force behind many people’s decision to live and work in Cobb County”, said Cobb County Commission Chairman Tim Lee. “As Commission Chairman, I recognize the importance of a sense of community and this Positive American Day celebration embodies what is great about our county and our country”.
The cities ok Kennesaw, Acworth are each proclaiming October 12 as Positive American Day in their Communities.
“Kennesaw is an incredibly positive community because of citizens who demonstrate this Positive American attitude every day”, said Mayor Mark Matthews of Kennesaw. “I am particularly glad that this event will be recognizing our public safety officials who have made us one of the top ten safest communities in Georgia.”
“As an All-America City, the city of Acworth is excited about supporting Positive American Day”, said Mayor Tommy Allegood of Acworth. “We have many Positive Americans in our community who make a difference in the lives of others every day.”
The celebrations will include elementary school choruses singing the national anthem and leading the Pledge of Allegiance, pastors from multiple churches providing invocations, a salute to current and former military members, a celebration of public safety officials, and a tribute to Positive Americans in Cobb County that have made significant positive contributions to their communities.
“The Cobb County Chamber is so excited that the Positive American movement is starting in Cobb County”, said Sharon Mason, Chief Operating Office for the Cobb Chamber. “We are thrilled to be part of this movement that will bring the community together and celebrate the great quality of life in our county. We hope the rest of the country will follow our lead.”
Pederson says he hopes Positive American Day and the movement will be replicated in communities throughout the country in 2016.
