The Cobb Chamber of Commerce will unveil the handprints of the Cobb County and Marietta City system-wide Teachers of the Year at a ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in Glover Park on the Marietta Square.
The two honored teachers will be the 22nd pair to leave their handprint legacy. The Cobb County Teacher of the Year is Osborne High School’s Christopher James. The Marietta City Teacher of the Year is Lynn McBride from Lockheed Elementary School.
The event will be held-rain or shine.
The handprint unveiling is one of several exciting events to recognize Cobb County’s educators and school systems. The event kicks off a month-long celebration, which will bring educators, students, parents, businesses and the community together to celebrate education.
Activities on Tuesday, Oct. 26 will honor all Cobb and Marietta’s Teachers of the Year at the Roswell Street Baptist Church. The day will start with a breakfast for Teachers of the Year, principals, and guests at 9 a.m. Reservations are required to attend as seats are limited. A pep rally, which is open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m.
Doctorate level sponsors for the Give Our Schools a Hand (GOSH) program are Cobb EMC, Delta Community Credit Union, Ed Voyles Automotive Group, Inc., Gas South, IBM Corporation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company and SCANA Energy.
Through the years, the GOSH program has motivated the community to take an active role in the public school systems and has attracted local and national attention to the quality of education in Cobb County. Originated in 1988, this salute to public education is one of the largest in the nation.
